GRAPPLIX

Adults – Men, Women, and Seniors

1. RANKINGS (BELT LEVELS)

White – Beginner
Blue – Intermediate
Purple – Intermediate
Brown – Advanced
Black – Advanced

2. AGE GROUPS

Adults: 18+
Masters: 35+
Seniors: 50+

Notes:

Masters and Seniors can compete in Adult divisions.
Men and Women will not compete against each other.
Absolute Divisions are open to all ages, ranks, and weights in both Gi and No-Gi.

Notes:

All divisions available in Gi and No-Gi
Gi divisions will take place first
High-demand brackets may switch to knockout format
Weight allowance: 0.5 kg
Missed weight: competitor moves up automatically
Brackets may include teammates due to randomization

We may also need to merge you if the brackets are quiet so please be open minded to this so we can accommodate you and others.

4. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

Gi (for Gi divisions)
Rash Guard (short sleeve only; any colour)
Mouthguard – optional
Groin protector – optional
Footwear on mats – strictly prohibited (DQ)
Hair – long hair must be tied back
Nails – fingernails and toenails must be trimmed and clean
Weigh-ins: on-site only (no video weigh-ins accepted)

5. MATCH FORMAT & DURATION

White belt matches: 5 minutes

Masters matches: 5 minutes 

Blue and purple belt matches 6 minutes 

Black Belt match ups 8 minutes 

6. SUBMISSION-ONLY RULESET & SCORING

This is a submission-only round-robin format, judged by a mat referee and a judging panel.

Scoring Criteria

Effective submission attempts (volume, control, and threat level)
Takedowns and throws
Mat control and positional dominance
Clean execution of legal techniques

Triangle choke (only 14+ can pull the head down)

8. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES (Straight DQ)

Slams (DQ)
Scissor takedowns (allowed only for brown and black belts) not allowed in the masters

Heel hocks (not allowed in the gi) only allowed for brown and black belts

9. UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT & WARNINGS

Stalls (warnings before DQ)

Illegal grips or techniques 

Penalty points then DQ.

Throwing/pushing opponent off the mats
Edging off the mat to avoid a submission
Offensive or strong language on the mats (DQ)
Arguing with referees during or after matches
Racist or sexist behaviour = immediate DQ and removal
Sandbagging (hiding prior experience)

No talking on the mats 
All complaints must be made to the judging panel, not the mat referee

10. MATCH OUTCOMES

12. TEAM POINT SYSTEM

Gold: 10 points
Silver: 7 points
Bronze: 3 points
Submission victory bonus: +5 points

All points contribute toward the Grapplix League Championship standings. We will be offering awards for best fighter, club and giving out free stuff!

13. REGISTRATION & ADMIN

All entries via Smoothcomp
Use legal names only (no nicknames)
Date of birth and ID required at check-in
Health waivers must be completed before the event
Mat areas will be clearly labelled

Coach Passes:
1 free pass per 5 fighters
2 free passes per 10+ fighters

No club grapplers can be in the coaching area, just the head coaches. The fight cannot start and this may lead to a DQ if you do nor follow the rules displayed by the ref on the mat 

Kids and minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian or registered coach at all times (this must be carried out or it will result in a straight DQ)

Gi Competition Rule Set

1. Match Duration

• Beginner (White Belt Adult) 5 minutes
• Intermediate (Blue and Purple Belt Adult) 6 minutes
• Expert (Brown and Black Belt Adult): 8 minutes

2. Divisions & Legal Techniques

Beginner Division (White Belt Adults)

• Legal Submissions:

o Straight ankle lock
o Americana, kimura, armbar
o Triangle choke, guillotine, cross choke
o Omoplata

• Illegal Techniques:

o Wrist locks
o Toe holds, heel hooks, kneebars
o Knee reaping
o Bicep slicer, calf slicer, spinal locks
o Jumping guard pulls
o Any submissions applying pressure to the spine or twisting the knee

Intermediate Division (Blue and Purple Belt Adults)

• Legal Submissions:

o All Beginner techniques
o Wrist locks
o Omoplata sweeps and submissions
o More advanced choke setups (bow and arrow, loop choke, etc

Illegal Techniques:

o Heel hooks, kneebars, toe holds
o Knee reaping
o Bicep slicer, calf slicer, spinal locks
o Scissor takedown
Expert Division (Brown and Black Belt Adults – 8 min)

Legal Submissions:

o All Advanced techniques
o Toe hold
o Kneebar
o Bicep slicer
o Calf slicer
Wrist locks

Illegal Techniques:

o Heel hooks (in Gi competitions only)
o Knee reaping
o Spinal locks without choke
o Small joint manipulation (fingers/toes)

Penalties awarded for:

• Stalling
• Illegal grips or techniques
Three penalties = disqualification.

Uniform & Hygiene (Gi Standards)

Gi can be any colour, in good condition (no tears, or excessive wear)

• Belt must match competitor’s division level.
• No pockets, zippers, or unauthorized patches.
• Fingernails & toenails trimmed, competitors must be clean.

(Kids & Teens Divisions)

Age groups will be separated into the following divisions. Fighters may be asked (or may request) to compete up in age if needed to fill brackets:

Teens: 16–17 years old

Note:

Boys and girls will compete in separate divisions
Teen blue belts (16–17) may face green/orange belts or be moved to the adult division if necessary
Competitors may not be merged down in weight or age so please be open minded so we can accommodate everyone

Intentionally edging off the mat to avoid submissions
Strong or offensive language (DQ)
Arguing with referees on the mat
Racist or sexist behaviour (immediate DQ and removal)
Sandbagging (hiding past experience) – may result in DQ
Complaints must be taken to the judging panel, not mat officials
